Travel Mobility Scooters

mobility scooter

Many people have trouble standing or walking for long periods of time. It can be a temporary condition or a longer-term problem. Travel mobility scooters are a perfect solution for those that don’t require a wheelchair and can still get around on their own but need some relief. I once knew someone who liked to use one because she had a low blood pressure problem and was afraid of falling down.

These scooters are very light and break down into smaller parts, making them easy to take apart and reassemble. This makes it possible to store it away in a car trunk and avoid the need to install a vehicle lift on your vehicle.

There are so many travel mobility scooters available from different companies offering different options like 3 wheel, 4 wheel, speeds and battery lives. Depending on the model and brand, the costs can differ greatly. I hope to take some of the confusion out of the process for you and simplify things a little.

I’m recommending 2 scooters because it’s almost impossible to have one perfect scooter for everyone. Depending on your needs, body size and weight one of these two scooters may not be right for you.

The first scooter I recommend is the Drive Medical Scout 4 Wheel Power Scooter (click to see the price on Amazon) or Compare Price on Ebay. It’s big purchase, I suggest to shop both places and save some money. Because of its 4 wheels, this scooter offers greater traveling ease on rougher terrain and uneven surfaces. Because of this there are some drawbacks. The turning radius is less than a 3 wheel and there is a little less room for your feet and legs to stretch out.

The second scooter I recommend is the Drive Medical Scout Spitfire 3 Wheel Power Scooter (click to see the price on Amazon) or Compare Price on Ebay. It’s a big purchase, I suggest to shop both places and save money. Because of its 3 wheel design, it has a tighter turning radius than the 4 wheel scooter. It also has more leg and foot room. Because of one less wheel, the scooter is more suited for a smoother riding surface.

Your decision on which scooter is better for you will depend on how important a tighter turning radius is and what kind of surface you’ll be mostly riding on. If you need easier steering and your riding surface is almost always smooth, then the 3 wheel scooter is best for you. If you’ll be riding on bumpy walkways or gravel driveways, then the 4 wheel scooter is best for you.

Other than the main differences noted above, almost everything else about these two scooters are identical. I made a comparison chart below for you to compare the rest of the features. Because of the extra wheel and parts involved, the 4 wheel scooter’s price is a smudge more than the 3 wheel.

The above chart lists the most important specifications that most people are interested in. For those of you that require more range than 9 miles, more battery life is needed. The Drive Medical 4 Wheel Scooter is offered with extended battery which provides a range of 15 miles.
